The Unappreciated Hero of the Finance World Is Bizarrely Back on Twitter (After Being Forced to Quit) | by Tim Denning | Jun, 2021 | DataDrivenInvestor
From a broad perspective, it’s easy to view the history of markets as a story of bubbles and crashes.
Recently, Michael Burry - the famous investor who has been immortalized in the blockbuster movie The Big Short - came out to say that we are in the “Greatest Speculative Bubble of All Time.” That’s a bold claim, but one that’s hard to disagree with.
“He’s referring to much of the madness we’ve seen in recent times. A coin with a dog’s face on it going sky-high in price. Zero interest rates. The fact more than 25% of all U.S. dollars created in history came into the global economy over the last eighteen months.” - Tim Denning

Bubbles and other disruptions aside, Ann Inw reminded us not to dismiss Tether concern.
“That many people are actually aware of it, but play along, intentionally sweep it under the rug, or worse, actively campaign to dismiss this as a real concern. All because for one big reason: They’re too deep in this game and have a lot to lose.” - Ann Inw
Cryptocurrencies like bitcoin have already shown signs of distress. Is this the beginning of the end for it all? Not necessarily. Some argue that there’s never been a better time to buy.
Hidden Dangers of Crypto Investing | by Todd Moses | Jun, 2021 | DataDrivenInvestor
The way people participate in this market might also amplify the FUD potential and market chaos.
“Several crypto exchanges have reduced the amount of leverage available to reduce the chance of a market crash. However, Ben Caselin, head of research at AAX exchange, warns “Most crypto derivatives exchanges still offer up to 125x.” To put that in perspective, imagine making a $125,000 stock purchase with a $1000 account. Now imagine it failing.” - Todd Moses
After all, bitcoin has come back from a massive crash before - following the winter of 2017. But, as Ann Inw pointed out, the often-overlooked details of that crash may be exactly what keeps BTC down this time around. And like many conversations these days, it comes back to The Big Short.

Still, as the potential for a crash spreading across the entire market becomes increasingly real, people are beginning to focus on longer-term investments. From old stalwarts to novel technology, there’re still a lot of real gems to be discovered.
